The focal point of any wedding reception is the wedding cake and what better way to further enhance this centerpiece than to adorn it with a vintage wedding cake topper.
Vintage wedding cake toppers from the first half of the twentieth century are not always that easy to find, but they are still available today and many are exquisite examples of the cake decorator’s art at that time.
Some of the finest examples of vintage wedding cake toppers are to be found in the Kewpie style (the world’s most popular and most copied style of doll) originally designed by Rose O’Neill at the turn of the twentieth century and made in bisque.

In this example from the 1920s the groom is wearing a black tuxedo and holding a top hat in his left hand while his bride is wearing a long white gown with a green head band and is holding a single flower bouquet.
The couple is standing on a four step base within an archway of fabric flowers and the entire piece, which stands about 5 inches high, has been fashioned out of chalk.
It is believed that this piece was originally sold through a stationery and engraver’s shop in Kansas City, Missouri.
Prices of course vary widely for vintage wedding cake toppers depending upon their rarity and condition, but can usually be found starting at around $100. The example shown here with its step base and floral arch would be slightly more expensive and you should expect to more something in the region of $170 to $180 for a piece of this nature.
