Ashley asked:
I am planning on sending out my wedding invitations! Do I send out a seperate invitation to the rehearsal dinner, or do I just plan that aside with the people in the wedding??? This is a casual beach wedding. Also, where on the invitation do I put attire for the wedding as casual, or do I need a seperate card for that????

Normally, rehearsal dinners are just for immediate family and those involved in the wedding (unless you want to make it a big affair). If you want to send out invitations for your rehearsal dinner, make them relatively casual. They can even be emailed. It’s not the wedding, so the invite doesn’t have to be fancy.
As for addressing the casual attire question, you can just do as you would with a formal wedding and have the words “casual attire” printed on the bottom right corner. I’ve got to warn you, though: you might want to write “please dress comfortably as the ceremony and reception will take place on the beach.”
If you write “casual,” you will see people in cutoff shorts, guaranteed. Some people are that tacky, wedding or not.
Usually just family and people in the wedding attend the rehersal dinner, soyou just let them know when and where. You can add a little card in the invitation to let people know that it is a casual beach wedding-that’s when my friend did for hers which was beach themed. She requested that people dress appropriate for the wedding, and bring flip-flops or whatever for the reception. You could always put it at the bottom of the invitation if there is room as well.
I’m getting married in the middle of July this year and for our rehearsal dinner invites we just printed up a separate short letter and put it in with the original wedding invitations sent to the bridal party, this letter also had check-lists for everyone on what to bring (outfits and such) and also hotel information (just helpful hints for everything to run smoothly). On the reception RSVP cards you can state that your guests are invited to a ‘casual dinner and dance’ or ‘casual reception’, but you don’t need a separate card. Anyway, most guests will be on the ‘casual’ tip with it being a beach ceremony anyway…I mean your dress will be limited by the sand alone, they will definitely get the hint. Hope everything turns out beautifully…casual receptions I think are the most fun for sure! Good luck to you!
You invite people separately to the rehearsal dinner – you can even do it by phone, since it’s just the wedding party, their spouses, and both sets of parents.
If you MUST indicate the type of attire, put it under the reception information on the lower left of the invitation:
e.g. Cocktails 5:30
Dinner 6:30
Lovely Ballroom
123 Apple St.
Dress – casual OR Casual Attire optional, etc.
no need to send out invites to the rehearsal dinner. notify the wedding party, and anyone else you would like to have there and be done. no need to give yourself more unnecessary work. you have enough to do with planning a wedding in the first place.
For the rehearsal dinner, yes it is a seperate invitation. Generally the wedding party, and close family members are invited to the dinner. If you have any close friends that aren’t in the wedding party, but that you would like to feel included, you can invite them to the dinner also! The dinner is more of an intimate gathering before the main event!
As for the invite, I would asume you could include it in the envelope for the weddings invite, as an insert! However, I reccomend sending them out seperately. The rehearsal dinner invitation should still fit the tone of the event, if it is a formal rehearsal dinner, then you should choose a formal invitation. If it is a backyard dinner, then it should fit the tone of that! I have seen all types, and there are awesome card stock invitations available to fit any and all types of events. These can be ordered online, or purchased from a local stationary or office supply store, and they can be printed professionally or on your at home computer! Again, please choose these to match the tone of your dinner. People will choose their attire (etc) based on the tone of the invitation. I have heard of people sending out evites for them, however, I feel that an invitation is probably best. Especially since family members are invited also, and older family members will generally appreciate an invitation far more than they will an email.
Secondly, for the attire question. I assume that somewhere on your invitation, (like the location) states that it is being held on the beach. If so, at the bottom I would just add, “Semi-Casual Beach Attire”. Or, you could have an insert made with a little not from you and your fiance
“Dear Guests,
We are so excited about our upcoming wedding and we hope you will be able to attend. We want all of our guests to be as comfortable as possible, so please remember that it is on the beach. In fact, you may even want to pack a fair of flip flops for our reception! Can’t wait to see you there!
John and Sue”
It’s really up to you and your budget. Good luck and congrats!
Also, quick note, the groom’s side generally takes care of the dinner! So even if you’re footing the bill, maybe you could ask one of them to help you address and send out the invites for the dinner itself! That way, you have one less thing to worry about getting out on time! They could even be hand delivered for an extra special touch!
I have seen enclosures in invitations for the rehearsal dinner, as well as where the couple is registered. It’s not uncommon to have several enclosures lately. If it’s a small wedding party, you could probably just call them all, or send out seperate cards ahead of time inviting them. If it’s a beach wedding, people should know to dress casually. You could easily put a small note or enclosure in the card stating the dress code too.
