Is it a custom among Mexicans for padrinos to buy wedding rings for the bride and the groom?

I am not familiar with Mexican culture. Are padrinos like godparents? Do brides- and grooms-to-be normally ask padrinos to get wedding rings for them, or are they supposed to buy the rings themselves?

What is the role of padrinos? Is it to buy something for the couple? To advise them? To give them money?

Padrinos , are those to share the spends of a party, wedding birthday, or any party with or without excuse, I’m Mexican and not really into party, but they ( padrinos ) are very important for the celebration they have a deep meaning, in a wedding padrinos besides to buy the rings becomes responsible of the new couple support them along with their parents.
